We combine our founder's direct experience in the Ghana market, our parent company's cross-border trading infrastructure, and a technical team that inspects every unit before it enters the container. UsedCarBase is the dedicated used-vehicle service line of a general trading company operating between China and Ghana since 2009.
UsedCarBase is operated by a general trading company with sixteen years of continuous cross-border experience between China and Ghana. While the UsedCarBase brand itself is a focused new service line, it is not a new operation. The infrastructure behind it — supplier relationships in mainland China, documentation workflows for Ghanaian ports, banking and settlement channels, and on-the-ground relationships in Accra and Tema — has been built over more than a decade and a half of active trading.
We launched UsedCarBase to concentrate this infrastructure on a single corridor and a single product category: quality used vehicles, sourced in China, inspected to a documented 150-point standard, and exported to Ghana. Narrower focus. Deeper accountability. Same parent company, same founder, same working standards refined for one market.

Kevin Lau has spent twenty-five years working directly with the Ghana market. That experience is personal, not corporate — built on years of travelling the corridor, negotiating with dealers in Accra and Kumasi, handling cars through Tema port, and learning which vehicles actually perform on Ghanaian roads and which do not.
He founded UsedCarBase to solve a problem he watched repeat across the industry: Ghanaian buyers paying deposits for vehicles they could not independently verify, then discovering condition or documentation issues only after the container arrived. The UsedCarBase model — documented pre-shipment inspection, container loading video evidence, and a written 6–12 month engine and transmission warranty — is a direct response to those failures.
Kevin is relocating from China to Ghana this year to lead the local team build-out personally, shortening the distance between the buyer and the person accountable for the shipment.

We run a deliberately lean team structure. Each role owns a specific stage of the buyer's journey — sourcing and pricing, documentation and shipping, technical inspection, and in-country support. Every core team member brings fifteen or more years of experience in their discipline. Our Ghana local support team is currently being established and will be operational by Q3 2026.

fifteen-plus years in cross-border shipping documentation. Responsible for export paperwork, bill of lading, commercial invoicing, insurance coordination, and port-to-port tracking. Direct working relationships with freight forwarders on both the China and Ghana ends of the corridor.
fifteen-plus years in automotive technical inspection. Executes the 150-point pre-shipment checklist on every vehicle, including engine, transmission, electrical, frame, and undercarriage review. Compiles the inspection report delivered to the buyer before container loading.
Locally based support for delivery coordination, post-arrival handover, warranty claim handling, and in-person buyer assistance. This team is currently being established as part of our 2026 Ghana entity setup and is not yet operational. Scope and staffing will be published on this page once live.

The twenty-five-year figure on this page belongs to our founder personally, not to the company. That distinction is important, and it is also the point. A quarter-century of direct work in Ghana produces a different kind of knowledge than generic "years in business" claims: which neighbourhoods in Accra move which vehicle segments, which ports clear containers fastest in which seasons, which model years hold resale value on Ghanaian roads, which documentation mistakes cause clearance delays at Tema.
This depth shapes how UsedCarBase sources and prices vehicles. We buy with the end-market in mind — which is why our inventory skews toward models with proven performance in Ghana's operating conditions, rather than whatever happens to be cheapest at Chinese auction on a given week.

GHANA OPERATIONS

Cross-border export works best when a buyer has someone to call who is in the same country, in the same time zone, and accountable to the same outcome. For this reason, we are establishing a locally staffed Ghana support team as part of our 2026 operational expansion.
Our founder is relocating to Ghana this year to lead the build-out directly. The local team will handle delivery coordination, in-person handover, warranty claim processing, and ongoing buyer support. Target operational date is Q3 2026. We are publishing this timeline openly rather than implying the team is already in place, because the difference between "launching soon" and "live today" is exactly the kind of distinction our buyers deserve to see clearly.
INDEPENDENT VERIFICATION
Our own 150-point inspection is the primary standard. Independent inspection is available as an add-on layer when a buyer requires it.
Every vehicle that ships through UsedCarBase passes our internal 150-checkpoint inspection, executed by our in-house engineer and documented in a written report delivered to the buyer before container loading. This is the baseline standard that applies to every unit, without exception.
For buyers who require an additional independent verification layer, we coordinate third-party inspection on a project basis with established independent inspection providers. This is case-by-case cooperation rather than a fixed exclusive arrangement — which allows us to match the inspection provider to the specific vehicle category, buyer preference, and destination requirements of each shipment.
Independent inspection is typically requested for higher-value units, fleet purchases, or first-time buyer relationships. Scope, timing, and additional cost are agreed with the buyer in writing before the inspection is commissioned, and the full third-party report is shared directly with the buyer.
